Should You Rebuild or Replace your Engine?

Should You Rebuild or Replace your Engine?

You don’t have to be well versed in the automobile industry to know that your vehicle needs a good working engine to get from place to place. When that engine starts to falter, you have two main options: rebuild it or replace it. There are pros and cons to both of these options; each individual will have to determine which is best for his or her particular situation. Option One: Rebuild Your Engine More often than not, rebuilding your engine instead of replacing it can save you money. Of course, this depends on the specific problem you’re experiencing with your engine, as well as the parts you need to efficiently rebuild it and the time it will take to complete the job. Additionally, if you can’t rebuild the engine yourself, then you will also have to factor in the cost of labor. During an engine rebuild, your vehicle’s engine is generally disassembled, and various parts (O-rings and timing belts) are either replaced or repaired. The engine is then put back t ... read more

What is Cylinder Head Porting?

What is Cylinder Head Porting?

Cylinder head porting is the action of modifying the intake and exhaust ports of an internal combustion engine that then results in an improvement of the quantity of airflow. This alone creates more power because more air in equals more power out. In heads that have not been ported, incoming air passes up and over obstructions. This means less air gets through resulting in less power capabilities. Cylinder head port matching provides a direct path, removing the obstructions from intake to head. The cylinder head porting job can be applied to any engine. There are a variety of areas within the cylinder head that we attend to in order to meet your specific performance goals. Some example of these include: Exhaust Ports: We can shave material here where the highest velocity air is found to be leaving the cylinder. Then our experts conduct port matching to ensure the diameter between the two components stays the same. Inlet Ports ... read more

How does Nitrous Help Engine Performance?

How does Nitrous Help Engine Performance?

The main purpose of adding nitrous is to increase horsepower. It accomplishes this by allowing the engines to burn more fuel per power stroke. The way nitrous is able to allow the engine to burn more fuel is that it increases the amount of oxygen in the cylinder during each power stroke. With more oxygen available, you also need to inject more fuel to keep the air-to-fuel ratio optimal, which yields a more powerful explosion. This results in added torque and faster acceleration times. Because nitrous comes out as such a cold gas, it also cools the intake air, which increases the density, and gives the engine more oxygen. Nitrous can also actually decrease the risk of early detonation because of how cold it can make things. You want to be at full throttle when you use nitrous because this lets the engine computer add more fuel so that the air-to-fuel ratio stays ideal. There are two types of nitrous systems on the market. The first is the dry system which is jus ... read more
