Cylinder head porting is the process of modifying both the intake and exhaust ports of an internal combustion engine resulting in improvement of the quantity of air flow. This process can be applied to any engine! At RPM all our porting starts with a valve job in order to make sure all valve seats are cut correctly for optimum flow characteristics. When your engine has an easier time breathing, it can turn that into power. It does that by filling the cylinder more efficiently, therefore giving better volumetric efficiency.
There are many benefits to cylinder head porting. The first benefit is that it causes increased airflow through the heads and into the combustion chamber. This alone creates more power because more air in equals more power out. In heads that have not been ported, incoming air passes up and over obstructions. This means less air gets through resulting in less power capabilities. Cylinder head port matching provides a direct path, removing the obstructions from intake to head. Matching occurs when the openings in the head and intake manifold are matched, using the intake gasket as a template. This results in a seamless transition between both components.
Cylinder head porting adds both torque and horsepower, although the amount varies vehicle to vehicle. Generally, it adds between 20-30 hp but for a more precise answer give our machine shop a call. One additional benefit that customers love is that cylinder head porting generates better fuel atomization that leads to better fuel economy.

Minor pocket porting is done behind the valves and into the head, focusing on the short side radius of both the intake and exhaust ports. Performance Porting includes the services of Street Porting, plus also blending the pockets into the runners of both exhaust and intake. Performance porting can also sometimes include blueprinting of the intake manifold to match. Race Porting include the services done for Performance Porting, with the addition of a full and complete porting of all runners in the heads. Both intake and exhaust and are worked from entry to exit.
